The State of Texas VS. Health Insurance

While political officials in Texas continue to follow the procedures of the Affordable Care Act by providing health insurance in Texas to poor adults, the state of the economy surrounding this issue has been recently brought up for debate. Additionally, the money received has recently been used to improve the condition of what’s been called the “Medicaid Shortfall,” which are the rates charged by hospitals that previously were not covered by the rates of Medicaid reimbursement strategies. This is a situation that is particularly grim compared to the rest of the states of America. Hospitals are also being paid through this system for the work they provide for poor adults and children that did not have health insurance in Texas at the time of their procedures and checkups.

The legal department of the state considered recently the condition of Texas’ contingency plan dependent upon the federal government’s choice to revoke the care fund’s deliberations. John Zerwas stated that he felt uneasy about the prospect of interrupting payments from the federal departments involved, and that it would potentially create a lot of upsets among the poorer families in Texas. Unfortunately, given the short time-frame before the next session within the legislation, the politicians involved in Texas have not shown great interest in the plan, and the initiative could be slowed down by their opposition.

Other state officials have prevented the growth of health insurance in Texas by making the same argument, stating that the increase of reimbursements could be taken care of at a later date when the books can be more actively checked. Hospitals in Texas are seeing the loss of over a billion dollars a year due to the federal cuts in health insurance in Texas, which are being ignored by the representatives of the state. This keeps the state from losing its title as the state with the highest rate of people that cannot afford health insurance.
